Sunday Salon Stylist Earns NYC Trip for Advanced Hair Stylist Education

Cary, NC, May 2025Sunday Salon is excited to celebrate stylist Tyler Holden, who earned an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City. This trip was for Advanced Hair Stylist Education. This achievement reflects Sunday Salon’s dedication to stylist development and highlights its focus on continuing education. It also emphasizes the salon’s commitment to delivering exceptional client experiences through top-tier training.

Advancing Hair Careers Through Retail Excellence

In late 2024, Sunday Salon launched a team-wide contest to reward excellence in retail performance and client care. To participate, stylists were encouraged to focus on professional hair treatments and recommend retail products tailored to clients’ unique needs. As a result, this initiative motivated stylists to elevate their service and performance.

After months of competition, Tyler Holden emerged as the top performer. He generated nearly $10,000 in retail and treatment sales. Consequently, his dedication and hard work were rewarded with a trip to New York City. There, he attended an exclusive Goldwell training focused on advanced razor cutting and modern color techniques.

What Is Advanced Hair Stylist Education?

Advanced Hair Stylist Education goes far beyond the basics of cosmetology. Specifically, it hones a stylist’s technical skills and creative vision. These programs enable stylists to deliver highly personalized and impactful results. Moreover, they often focus on precision haircutting, custom color techniques, and elevated client consultations.

The Goldwell Education course Tyler attended, Tailoring the Cut and Color, was ideal for his goals. Combining in-depth theory with hands-on practice, the program enhanced his skills in razor cutting. Additionally, it improved his ability to collaborate with teammates for seamless client transformations.

“At Sunday, we often work together as a team on a single client,” Tyler explained. “This class helped me better understand how to collaborate during consultations and create seamless, elevated results.”

From First Flight to First-Class Training

Tyler had taken advanced education courses before, but this trip marked a series of firsts. It was his first time on a plane, first visit to New York City, and first training in a global education hub. Coming from a small-town background with a traditional beauty shop model, the experience was transformative.

“Being in that environment changed how I see the industry,” Tyler shared. “It showed me there’s always more to learn. I now realize I’m capable of so much more than I imagined.”

Why We Invest in Our Stylists

At Sunday Salon, we believe continuing education is key to delivering expert-level hair services. Therefore, we provide our team with opportunities to learn from national educators. We also support advanced training programs to help stylists grow both behind the chair and beyond it.

“Education keeps us inspired, sharpens our craft, and ensures every client has a personalized experience,” said Lisa Edwards, CEO of Sunday Salon. “We’re incredibly proud of Tyler—not just for his sales success but for his curiosity and intention throughout this opportunity.”

The Impact on Clients and Team Culture

The skills Tyler gained from his Goldwell training have already made a noticeable impact. Both his clients and the rest of the salon team have benefited. For example, he has mastered razor cutting techniques and refined his client consultation approaches. Furthermore, this type of advanced education helps our team stay ahead of trends and deliver exceptional results consistently.

Whether you’re a client seeking expert-level hair care or a stylist looking for a salon that values growth, Tyler’s story reflects our values. At Sunday Salon, we celebrate artistry, ambition, and the endless possibilities of learning.

Advanced Training, Elevated Craft

Tyler recently traveled to New York City for advanced hair stylist education at the Goldwell Institute after winning our Q4 growth contest. This level of education enhances the way our entire team works together and directly impacts the experience we give our clients.

At Sunday Salon, education and support are part of the job, not extras. We offer hands-on training, real-time mentorship, and access to advanced classes like Goldwell’s NYC program to help our team stay sharp and grow with confidence. Our approach is structured, collaborative, and focused on long-term career development.
