Sunday Salon at First Friday: Connecting With Our Raleigh Iron Works Community

Since moving to Raleigh Iron Works this summer, we've been finding new ways to get to know the people, businesses, and community around our new home.

On August 7, Sunday Salon joined our Raleigh Iron Works neighbors for First Friday, an evening of music, food, drinks, shopping, and local businesses coming together throughout the district. As a hair salon in Raleigh that recently made the move from Cary, it was a chance for our hair stylists to step outside the typical salon day, meet new faces, and share a little more about Sunday Salon.

And, of course, we brought some of our favorite hair care along with us.

Our First Friday at Raleigh Iron Works

For the evening, we set up right outside Sunday Salon alongside our neighbors at St. Pierre Wine Shop & Bar and Hunky Dory, with music from Hunky Dory setting the scene for the night.

Throughout the evening, we met people exploring Raleigh Iron Works, caught up with familiar faces, introduced Sunday Salon to people discovering us for the first time, and got to spend time with some of the businesses we now call neighbors.

For our table, we wanted to create something that felt distinctly Sunday Salon while sharing more about the products our hair stylists use and love.

A Tablescape Inspired by Davines

Rather than simply setting out products and giveaway entries, we created a tablescape inspired by three Davines collections, using fresh produce, herbs, botanicals, and greenery to bring the ingredients and stories behind the products to life.

Each part of the table represented a different hair need: curls and texture, moisture and repair, and color care.

For LOVE Curl, we paired the products with pink grapefruit, green olives, and fresh olive branches, creating a bright, Mediterranean-inspired display around a collection designed to enhance and support curly and wavy hair.

Our NOUNOU display was built around moisture and repair, with vine-ripened tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, and fresh basil surrounding the products. The tomatoes were a nod to the Fiaschetto tomato from Torre Guaceto in Italy, the featured ingredient behind the NOUNOU collection. Designed for dry, damaged, or highly processed hair, it's a collection our hair stylists reach for when hair needs extra nourishment and care.

For MINU, we styled the collection with fresh lemons, greenery, delicate white flowers, and capers. MINU is created specifically for color-treated hair and features Salina caper bud extract, making the ingredients on the table a natural way to tell a little more of the story behind the products.

Together, the grapefruit, olives, tomatoes, lemons, capers, herbs, and flowers transformed the table into something people could stop, look at, and ask about. More importantly, it gave us an opportunity to share some of the intention behind the products you'll find inside our Raleigh hair salon.

Three Davines Giveaways, Three Different Hair Needs

We carried that same idea into our First Friday giveaway by putting together three curated Davines baskets, each centered around a different hair need.

Our Repair Basket included NOUNOU Shampoo, NOUNOU Conditioner, and OI Hair Butter. We curated this collection for hair in need of additional moisture, nourishment, and softness, particularly hair that has been dry, damaged, or processed.

Our Color Basket featured MINU Shampoo, MINU Conditioner, and OI All In One Milk. The MINU products are designed to care for color-treated hair, while OI All In One Milk adds lightweight conditioning, softness, and manageability.

Finally, our Curl Basket included LOVE Curl Shampoo, LOVE Curl Conditioner, and LOVE Curl Cream, creating a routine designed to cleanse, condition, define, and support curly and wavy hair.

Guests could enter to win the basket that best matched their own hair and its needs.

In a way, it was a small reflection of what our Raleigh hair stylists do every day. Hair care isn't one-size-fits-all, and the products that work beautifully for one person may not be what someone else's hair needs. Understanding the individual comes first.

Why We Use Davines at Sunday Salon

Davines has become an important part of what we use behind the chair and recommend to our clients at Sunday Salon.

Of course, performance matters. Our hair stylists need professional products that support the work they're doing in the salon and give clients realistic ways to care for their hair once they're home.

However, we also care about what's behind the products we choose.

Davines approaches professional hair care with an emphasis on thoughtfully sourced ingredients, sustainability, responsible production, and the communities connected to many of its ingredients. Its Essential Haircare collections highlight ingredients grown in different regions of Italy, including the Fiaschetto tomato found in NOUNOU and the Salina caper featured in MINU.

That combination of performance and intention is one of the reasons Davines feels at home at Sunday Salon.

Our First Friday tablescape gave us a more visual way to tell that story and share a little more about why you'll find Davines throughout our hair salon in Raleigh.

Getting to Know Our Raleigh Community

While we loved putting the table together and sharing some of our favorite products, our favorite part of First Friday was getting to spend time with the people around us.

Since moving to Raleigh Iron Works, those connections have started happening in all kinds of ways.

Our team has quickly become familiar with Bad Brain Coffee Co., located just steps from the salon, and we've even had the opportunity to get some of their team into our chairs for haircuts. First Friday gave us another chance to spend time alongside businesses like St. Pierre and Hunky Dory while meeting people who live, work, and spend time in this part of Raleigh.

Those relationships are something we want to continue building.

Our hair stylists spend their days connecting with people behind the chair. So naturally, being part of the community outside of it matters to us, too.

More to Come From Sunday Salon in Raleigh

First Friday was one of our first opportunities to participate in a larger Raleigh Iron Works event since moving into our new space, and we're excited for more.

From collaborations with our neighbors to community events and opportunities to bring what we do outside the salon, we're looking forward to continuing to get involved in the place we now call home.

If you stopped by our table, entered one of our Davines giveaways, or simply took a few minutes to talk with us on First Friday, thank you. We loved meeting you.
